It has been a busy year for the Young Adults Network (YAN). Our new board of directors came into effect on June 22nd and we have been working tirelessly. Our main focus has been on, our Summercamp event, to be held in Calgary, AB from August 9-15, 2020, in partnership with Jade’s Camp and the International Federation of Hard of Hearing Young People (IFHOHYP). In October, I had the privilege of representing YAN at the IFHOHYP Annual General Meeting in Zurich, Switzerland. The camp will have space for 60 participants, approximately half being Canadians. We are extremely appreciative of our donors so far, which include the general public and corporate sponsors, as well as CHHA-affiliated sponsors (CHHA Foundation, CHHA-Newfoundland and Labrador, and CHHA-North Shore).
YAN is working hard to increase our membership and visibility across the country. CHHA-Sudbury has been instrumental in supporting us in this drive by printing 3,000 colour posters designed by YAN member, Tahsin Mohammad. In the weeks and months to come, we will be distributing and pinning these posters in a variety of locations including hearing clinics and university accessibility departments.
We are excited for the New Year and the possibilities and opportunities that will emerge. It has been an exciting journey thus far as President and working with my fellow board members; thoroughly enjoying the collaboration among us. As previously mentioned, we are hoping to increase membership, involvement of our members, and help create a strong sense of community across Canada. Some of the ways we are doing this is increasing our social media presence, highlighting young adults with hearing loss, and actively collaborating with members on various projects. We welcome your ideas!
On behalf of the board, I wish each and every one of you a safe Happy Holidays.
