One of the biggest myths about hearing loss is that everyone knows how to lipread. While that may be true for some, not everyone has the skill.
But what is lipreading?
Lipreading or Speech reading is the act of one interpreting mouth, facial and body movement and expression to understand what was said.
At first it may seem like a cool magic trick. After all, the ability to read another person’s lips seems nearly impossible. It almost sounds like something what a super spy like 007 or Jason Bourne would be able to do.
However, it is a skill that anyone can learn! It just takes focus, patience, and practice.
For the next blog posts, we will go over lipreading, how it works, when it is useful and who can benefit from using it.
