Message from the Executive Director

From the Desk of Christopher Sutton
National Executive Director
Canadian Hard of Hearing Association

May marks Better Hearing and Speech Month, a month dedicated to education and awareness about hearing loss. Education and awareness come in many forms; it can be talking to your family and friends, opening dialogue with elected representatives or participating in events in your community. It is critical we begin this education and awareness so we can begin the crucial work of breaking down barriers that people with hearing loss experience every day.

This week I was pleased to speak at the Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology, where I encouraged the Senate to act quickly to pass Bill C-81: An Accessible Canada Act. Once this bill is passed, Canada will begin the task of breaking down barriers for all persons who live with disabilities.

In addition to encouraging the Senate Committee to pass Bill C-81, I also urged the government to work with CHHA and the newly formed Hearing Health Alliance of Canada to develop a National Hearing Health Strategy.

This May we are creating awareness and education about hearing loss and will be attending several events from coast to coast to coast. We will close Better Hearing and Speech Month with one of the biggest events for people living with hearing loss in Canada at our Educational Conference & Trade Show, taking place in Montreal May 30-June 2, 2019. This is an event you don’t want to miss. I encourage you to learn more about our amazing line up of speakers and events that will inspire all by visiting https://www.chha.ca/2019-conference-and-trade-show/

I look forward to welcoming you to Montreal.

Regards,

Christopher T. Sutton
