FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Ottawa, October 17, 2023 – The Canadian Hard of Hearing Association (CHHA) is thrilled to announce the successful integration of hearing assistive technology at the Miracle League of Ottawa. This achievement marks a significant milestone in making recreational activities, like baseball, more inclusive for individuals with hearing loss.

The Miracle League of Ottawa, known for its commitment to providing accessible opportunities for people of all abilities, has introduced a ground-breaking communication solution in collaboration with CHHA. This innovation centers around the Phonak Rogers wireless microphone system and will deliver coaching instructions directly to players through their hearing aids or cochlear implants.
This technology, combined with a new field speaker system, greatly enhances the hearing experience for both players and fans who rely on assistive technology. The Live Hearing Technology Demonstration, held on October 14, 2023, showcased the system’s success, allowing attendees to witness the technology in action and discover its profound impact.
“…when it was turned on, the sound was amazing. Clear and crisp. Even across the field the sound quality was the same. I am impressed and in awe of how technology for hearing loss is evolving!”
–Carrie Hartwick, CHHA employee with hearing loss
CHHA applauds the Miracle League of Ottawa’s dedication to creating more accessible and inclusive spaces for the community. This development opens doors for Hard of Hearing individuals who may not have had these opportunities otherwise.
CHHA would like to extend their gratitude to the LeVasseur family for their support in organizing the installation and to Hearing Assistive Technology Group for their expertise and advice during the process. Additionally, a special thank you to the Ottawa Community Foundation and the Catherine and Maxwell Meighan Foundation for funding this initiative.
