  • Caroline is in the hospitality industry, Andreas is a marketing executive

Caroline and Andreas have always dealt with hearing loss as a couple. The most important words they would say to each other were « WE are hearing impaired. » The long, grinding erosion hearing loss eroded the quality of our relationship. The friction hearing loss introduced to relationships meant we saw friends less, and at smaller gatherings, because it was all we could manage. Everything we did was based on « what option provides the best hearing outcome? » Life became smaller just trying to cope. Caroline says the Kanso (her new processor) has an « on » button, but thinks it should say, « life. » As a media producer, Andreas’ professional working relationship with sound guides how we approach not just hearing loss, but hearing restoration. Caroline enjoys listening to at least four podcasts a day and strikes up conversations with strangers because she can. Now the most important words we say are, « WE have a cochlear implant. » Since her cochlear implant journey began the couple has started a blog called “My Beautiful Cyborg” to document her journey through pod casts. https://mybeautifulcyborg.com/
