Laura Girardo is currently completing her Bachelors of Education degree at Queen’s University as she is on her journey to becoming a Teacher of the Deaf. She is very passionate about school and education, as she has also completed her Master`s degree at York University, as well as her undergraduate degree at Ryerson University. Laura has been an ambassador for her hearing centres at the York Catholic District School Board, where she has given numerous talks about her journey as a deaf and hard of hearing student. She is now on VOICE`s TOP committee to promote self-advocacy which is important to her because it is where she gained confidence and independence. She hopes to inspire other deaf students to dream big!

Karina Cotran works in the field of communications and is also a published author of a collection of short stories that is central around growing up with hearing loss. She is a hearing loss advocate for young professionals in the community. One of the ways she contributes is being on the Board of Directors for VOICE for deaf and hard of hearing children, acting as the Director of the Teen Outreach Program (TOP). She also contributes by doing a blog (https://hearingdifferently.com/) about her day-to-day experience with living with hearing loss. The blog is a platform where individuals with hearing loss as well as parents, professionals, teachers can go, read and comment on the experiences, opinions and thoughts that are being written about.

Part 2 of this webinar series will be held on Saturday June 6, 2020 from 3:30 to 4:30 EDT
