The Canadian Hard of Hearing Association announces partnership with the Como Foundation

(For Immediate Release) August 13, 2020 –The Canadian Hard of Hearing Association (CHHA) is pleased to announce a partnership with the Como Foundation to produce and provide clear masks to Canadians that break down barriers and provide accessible communication solutions. The Como Foundation designs and manufactures clear masks to enable effective communication with those who are hard of hearing or deaf.

The COVID-19 Pandemic has created unprecedented circumstances that are impacting the health and social wellness of all Canadians. For people who are hard of hearing or deaf, the impact of physical distancing and the legislated use of face masks that hide the mouth has created additional challenges.

“We want to highlight that these masks benefit everyone and encourage those in certain healthcare, retail and other services to promote the practice of wearing clear masks as a standard universal approach. We are proud to partner with the Como Foundation in finding solutions that are breaking down communication barriers during these challenging times,” said Marilyn Kingdon, President and Chair of the CHHA National Board of Directors.

  • Face masks that hide the view of a person’s mouth interfere with the ability to understand the other party and may negatively affect a person’s ability to engage and be served due to misunderstandings and lack of communication accessibility.
