CHHA/CHHA Foundation Scholarship Winner

CHHA/CHHAF Foundation Scholarship 2016 was awarded to Angus Robertson of West Vancouver BC, who will be studying at the Imperial College in London, UK. He has been invited on a conditional basis to study physics in the Masters of Science program consisting of 4 years of scientific research.

Frank Algar Memorial Scholarship Winner

The Frank Algar Memorial Scholarship was created in 2004 by the Algar Family in memory of Frank Algar who was one of the founding members of CHHA and provided dedication and outstanding service for many years to the work of the association. The 2016 Scholarship was awarded to Rebecca Wallace of Bradford ON. Rebecca is entering her second year of her Doctorate of Philosophy. At the university in her various positions, she has been able to help employees, students and peers who identify as hard of hearing by fulfilling their accommodations and helping to ensure that the workplace and/or classroom remains an accessible space.

Dr. Charles A. Laszlo Scholarship Winner

The Dr. Charles A. Laszlo Scholarship created in 2007 by Dr. Doreen Laszlo to honour the commitment and work of her husband on behalf of hard of hearing people. The 2016 Scholarship went to Michelle Edwards of St Lawrence NL. She will study Audiology in Dalhousie University and believes that her own experiences with hearing loss will allow her to make a huge difference in the lives of her future clients.

MED-EL Scholarship Winner

The MED-EL Scholarship was created early in 2013. The 2016 Scholarship went to Kristin Piche of Victoria BC. She is pursuing a Bachelor of Science with a concentration in Marine Biology. She is in her third year of her studies and plans further advanced studies. Kristin received her implant in June of 1995. In her travels, she learned to surf and scuba dive as part of her love affair with the ocean.
