CHHA Scholarship Winner
Tristan Treasure is an 18-year old student from Aurora, Ontario. His hearing loss was diagnosed at 18 months of age. At the age of 12, he received a Nucleus 24 Cochlear Implant would enabled him to hear much better than he did with his hearing aids, and his life “changed for the better”. His current plans are to attend University to study politics, urban and environmental planning, and eventually pursue courses in law. Ultimately he would like to pursue a career in law specializing in environmental issues.
Frank Algar Memorial Scholarship Winner
Simone Fortier, from Burnaby, BC, is the second receipient of the Frank Algar Memorial Scholarship. She was diagnosed with hearing loss at the age of 2, and is currently studying in the Global Stewardship Program at Capilano College. After she completes this two-year program, she will either transfer to a BC University to complete her Arts Dgree or apply to study Nursing. In the future she would like to become a nurse, which will allow her to travel and work for a non-governmental organization.
