About
Sudbury is known throughout Ontario as having an illustrious history in the mining industry and has some of the best mineral deposits in the world dating back 1.85 billion years ago, when a massive meteorite created the Sudbury Crater. The rich geological history has made Sudbury home to the "Big Nickel" and two science centers.
Things to Do
Science North
|
Internationally renowned for its personal approach to science education and its friendly resident Bluecoats, the Science Centre is filled with fun and imagination.
Get up close to a porcupine, a beaver and flying squirrels, build a robot in the LEGO® Mindstorms Robotics Lab, take off and land in a floatplane flight simulator and walk amidst hundreds of free-flying tropical butterflies in the F. Jean MacLeod Butterfly Gallery. Fly like the wind in Wings Over the North: A 4D Bush Plane Adventure, a 3D film with special effects seating. |
Dynamic Earth
|
As a sister attraction of Science North, Dynamic Earth features interactive exhibits and multimedia shows that highlight the area’s unique geology and rich mining heritage. Visitors gain knowledge, insight and understanding of the importance that earth sciences play in the world around us. |
Outdoors
|
With 330 lakes and dozens of accessible nature experiences within the city, naturally you’ll be attracted to the outdoors. Take an early morning stroll along the walkway at Bell Park. Hike rocky trails that reward with magnificent vistas at Blueberry Hill and Onaping Falls. Get wet with a refreshing dip at a supervised beach.
