The present criteria, particularly the words “quiet setting”, have caused a great deal of
uncertainty amongst physicians, audiologists and other qualified authorizers of the Disability Tax Credit Certificate. This uncertainty has led to many hard of hearing individuals being unjustly denied the Disability Tax Credit, and brought to the forefront its discriminatory nature. » more...

Province Announces Cochlear Implant, Hearing Aid Surgery Program for Adults and Children
April 18, 2011 - For the first time in Manitoba, adults and children with severe hearing difficulties will now have the option to receive cochlear implants or bone-anchored hearing-aid (BAHA) surgery right here in the province, through a new otological surgery program announced today by Health Minister Theresa Oswald.

“Currently, Manitobans who need cochlear implants or bone-anchored hearing-aid surgeries have to travel out of province to Alberta, Ontario and Newfoundland, but today’s $1.5-million investment will now ensure that Manitobans receive all aspects of care including preoperative evaluation, surgery and post-operative rehabilitation right here at home in Manitoba,” said Oswald. “Establishing a hearing surgery program at the Health Sciences Centre, in partnership with Central Speech and Hearing Clinic (CSHC), will offer a local choice for Manitoba families and improve care to those patients who need this type of support.”

In January 2010, the CRTC issued a directive to the Interconnection Steering Committee Emergency Services to progress with the investigations findings, which mandated the introduction of a 911 service via “Text Messaging”.

Mr. Rendall now sits on the Emergency Service Working Group of the CRTC and is requesting assistance from interested CHHA members living in Vancouver, Toronto, PEEL Region (Mississauga/Brampton) and Montreal to take part in trial testing of the system that has been developed.
