Myrtle has been with CHHA since its humble beginnings, and it is her vision that CHHA will reach all the people who need their services, people who have yet to learn that there is life after hearing loss, people who are unaware of services and resources available to them, and youth who need the guidance to develop their leadership skills and become future members of CHHA. Most of all, she wants to be there for people the same way that CHHA has been there for her, and guided her through her difficult teen to adult years.
Myrtle has a progressive hearing loss and has gone from hard of hearing to late-deafened. She has never let her disability hold her back, performing well academically to become a Social Worker. She is on various committees with CHHA-NC, is extremely dedicated to Youth Issues, is the Chair of an Advisory Committee for Interpreting Services of Newfoundland and Labrador, and a member of the Mayor's Advocacy Committee for People with Disabilities. Her firm belief that even though she has an invisible disability, it is very important for her to be as visible as possible within the community. Her own hearing loss, and experiencing the hearing loss of her friends and family, brings her plenty of experiences to the National Board as a Director.
