About CHHA
Mandate
CHHA's mandate is to be active in all matters pertaining to hard of hearing people. Some of these are:
- Education
- CHHA promotes better education for hard of hearing and late-deafened persons, and the development of social, educational and employment environments that enable the hard of hearing Canadians to achieve their potential.
- Access
- CHHA lobbies for accessibility to classrooms, houses of worship, theatres, etc. by advising on the use of technical aids that enable hard of hearing people to participate.
- Public Awareness
- CHHA submits briefs and makes presentations to federal and provincial governments, health-care agencies and other organizations; conducts public awareness programs; and identifies the special needs of hard of hearing people.
- Technical Devices
- CHHA seeks mandatory standards for hearing aids and other devices and tries to ensure the availability of specialized technical aids.
- Self-Help
- CHHA encourages hard of hearing people to take responsibility for their growth and development, and to join in activities.
