Annie Lee MacDonald is a retired teacher and vice-principal with a moderate hearing loss. She became aware of the CHHA through the "Coping with Hearing Loss" project, taking the training offered by the program and preceding to teach the three levels of the program. She became aware of the need for the hard of hearing to attain information on their disability to take positive steps to ensure the best communication strategies possible. She realized the need for hard of hearing services, to develop awareness and educate the public to communicate more effectively with someone with a hearing loss.
Annie Lee began the P.E.I. Chapter with six members, and presently has over forty members who attend the morning meetings. She devotes time to speak to groups and prepares regular submissions to the media to educate everyone about hearing loss. They have successfully had two major hospitals address the needs of the hard of hearing that uses the facilities. Annie Lee has been on the National Board for three years and is interested in continuing to work at this level for another term.
